In 1962, Bruce Reynolds prepared a robbery that would be the breaking point for his gang - using force, they attacked the money transfer convoy at the London Heathrow Airport. Unfortunately for them, the amount of money inside the boxes they stole was much smaller than they expected. When another opportunity arose next year, Reynolds was sure this was gonna be the job of their lives. They got the tip off that the night train from Glasgow to London has a post office car marked as HVP, which stands for High Value Package. Inside that car, post is transporting the used banknotes from Scottish banks to London. According to their informant, inside might be as much as a million pounds, even shared between the people involved, it would still be a life-changing amount. This time the simple violent solution would not do, so Reynolds had to come up with a cunning plan to stop the train, unload the car and still have enough time to safely leave the area. The first element in that puzzle is someone, who knows a thing or two about railroad signals...
British drama presenting the famous 1963 Great Train Robbery, but the film is split into two parts - in the first we watch Reynolds and the rest of the gang preparing every detail of the plan and the robbery itself, while in the second part we see the story from police point of view - DCS Tommy Butler takes over the investigation and his team begins to find piece by piece the elements that will lead them to the robbers. This way we see both the sides of the story and even though we know how the story ends, the film is intriguing and entertaining.
