Original title: Shinkansen Daibakuha

Running time: 134 minutes
Language: Japanese
A Shinkansen train, Hayabusa 60, departs from Shin-Aomori to Tokyo full of passengers, soon after someone contacts the railway headquarters with information that there is a bomb hidden onboard. To prove that this is not a hoax, a similar bomb was also placed aboard a freight train, which explodes with great power. The device attached to Hayabusa 60 is set to explode if the train will slow down below 100 kmh. The crew is informed of the problem, but hoping to avoid panic among the passengers, the information is kept a secret. Whoever placed the bomb there, demands 100 billion yen (over 600 million dollars) from the government, so all citizens would contribute to this ransom. The government, sticking to its policy of not negotiating with terrorists, refuses to pay, but soon the information about hostages aboard Hayabusa 60 is leaked to the media. Among the passengers aboard the train, there is a YouTuber, who starts a public collection over the internet, in order to gather the money for the ransom. Meanwhile, the crew and the dispatchers in the railway headquarters try to find a way out of this situation before the train could reach Tokyo.
A sequel to 1975 action movie, Bullet Train Explosion is a very clean and very organized film - there is not much backstory to the characters, the tension is barely there, the action bits are rather static, the motivation of the characters is often unclear. As for value as a train movie, it has a lot of interesting shots aboard the Shinkansen and from behind the scenes of running a modern times railway. Overall, it is a decent movie, but train enthusiasts should not be disappointed.
