Philip gets on a train from Malmö to Stockholm, but finds a young girl occupying his seat. He wakes her up. Still slightly disoriented she notices that her suitcase is gone. She is devastated because she just lost her belongings and she insists that she had absolutely everything in that suitcase. Philip tries to cheer her up and tells her that sometimes it is good to lost everything and make a fresh start, but she is still unhappy. They will travel together for next 5 hours, so they try the small talk to kill some time. The girl’s name is Amanda, she seems to be preoccupied by something else than just the lost suitcase. While they talk about their lives it becomes more and more obvious that they are in similar places in their lives. Philip is on the way to stop the love of his life from marrying someone else, Amanda is chasing after a man that hurt her like nobody else, but still she can’t help to still love him. They soon discover that in fact they both travel to stop the same wedding, because the people they love are about to marry each other.
Swedish romance film that takes place aboard the train, where two strangers that share the same compartment have much more in common than they realize. It is a chamber drama, in which both characters spend almost whole time in the same room sharing their past and plans for future. The whole production was filmed aboard real train within 5 hours (same time the train travels from Malmö to Stockholm) with only two characters. There are very little details of the train visible, but How to Stop a Wedding is in a way the quintessence of how train travel can tangle the fate of complete strangers.
